Omega De Ville Watch Service and Repair

We love Omega watches – be it a modern or vintage watch model, they’re always excellent quality and almost always worth repairing. We are very familiar with repairing Omega watches, such as our servicing of an Omega Speedmaster Chronograph and the repair of an Omega Constellation.

On the Bench: Servicing an Omega De Ville Prestige

While the more sports-oriented Omegas often get the most attention, the De Ville Prestige remains a staple in our workshop. It is a classic dress watch that relies on a slim profile and traditional finishing—qualities that require a careful hand during both the mechanical service and the casing stage.

This particular gents’ bi-colour model was recently sent to us for a full movement service and a light aesthetic refresh of the case and bracelet.

Mechanical Service

This model utilizes an Omega automatic movement based on the high-grade ETA 2892 architecture. It is a slim, reliable calibre, but because of its thin construction, it requires precise lubrication to maintain its performance over time.

As with every full service at WE Clark Watch Repairs, the movement was completely stripped down. Each individual part—from the mainspring to the escapement—was put through our specialist cleaning machine to remove old, degraded oils. After cleaning, we inspected every pivot and jewel for wear before reassembling and lubricating the movement according to Omega’s technical specifications.

Case and Bracelet Refurbishment

The bicolour finish on this watch—a mix of stainless steel and yellow gold—presents a specific challenge. Because gold is much softer than steel, you have to be extremely careful during the polishing process to ensure you don’t lose the definition of the links or the crispness of the case lugs.

The client opted for a light polish. The goal here wasn’t to make the watch look brand new by removing deep marks, but rather to take away the surface “clouding” and fine scratches that dull the metal over time. By using specific polishing mops for each metal, we were able to restore the original contrast between the steel and gold while keeping the watch’s original shape intact.

Testing and Delivery

Once the movement was cased back up, the watch was regulated and tested on our timing machines to ensure it was performing within the expected tolerances. This was followed by a multi-day test on a winder to verify the automatic winding system and power reserve.

The watch is now back with its owner, looking refreshed and, more importantly, running accurately.
