Seiko SKX007 Divers Full Service and Repair

expert watch repair in lewes

Seiko watches are one of the most popular brands in the UK. While they perhaps don’t have the quality of a Rolex or an Omega (unless we’re talking about sister company Grand Seiko of course), many of their workhorse movements can still be serviced and repaired to ensure continued reliable service for many years to come.

At W.E. Clark Watch Repairs, we offer more than just a watch service. We provide expert care supported by generations of experience, a commitment to excellence, and national recognition. If you’re looking for antique watch repair, pocket watch restoration, or luxury watch repairs, our team led by our in-house Master Watchmaker, is here to help.

Seiko SKX007 Watch Repair

We specialise in all areas of watch repair, from servicing modern luxury watches to restoring treasured vintage pieces. Led by a master watchmaker and supported by a British Horological Institute (BHI) Accredited Watchmaker, our in-house team has worked on tens of thousands of timepieces. If you’re searching for a vintage watch specialist or an expert in watch repair, you’re in experienced hands.

In this instance we’re working on a very popular Seiko model – the SKX007. This is an automatic watch with day-date indicator. The movement powering this watch is the Seiko calibre 7S26 – a real workhorse movement which will run and run, even if it is in sub-optimal condition. So on inspection of the watch, finding out it wasn’t working at all was a little concerning!

Assessing the Seiko 7s26 Movement

After checking the hands set and the day/date change over, we open the case back to have a look at the movement itself. It clearly had not been to a watchmaker in many years, if ever. There was an issue with the balance – specifically the hairspring – which was a little misshapen and in need of adjustment. This is what was stopping the movement from working. Otherwise most parts seemed to be in a reasonable condition, though to check properly we need to disassemble the movement.

As the movement is progressively taken apart we can check all components for wear and give everything a pre-clean. Once fully disassembled we run the majority of parts through our Elma Solvex watch movement cleaning machine. As the 7S26 movement uses some plastic components, these are not put through a cleaning cycle and are instead cleaned gently by hand.

After cleaning, the movement is carefully reassembled and oiled. We fit a replacement barrel and mainspring as part of this service. We also make the necessary adjustment to the hairspring. We follow the manufacturer’s technical specifications for this calibre, ensuring all correct oils and greases are used.

Once the movement is back together we can refit the dial and hands before casing the watch. When it’s cased up we do a final test on the timing machine before moving the watch officially on to test before it is released to our client. We test it’s correct automatic winding, continued functioning within tolerances and setting.

Once testing is complete this fantastic Seiko SKX007 Divers Automatic Watch will be ready to return to our client.
