TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph Service and Repair

Our fully equipped on-site watch workshop offers a full range of repairs – from smaller jobs like battery changes and glass replacements through to full servicing of the vast majority of brands including Omega, TAG Heuer, Longines, Breitling and Rolex. We are an authorised service centre for TAG Heuer, so our workshop has been assessed by the brand and we are able to order the required parts to complete TAG Heuer repairs to a high standard.

Our latest project on the bench involves the repair and servicing of a TAG Heuer Formula 1 Automatic Chronograph. On initial inspection, the watch was running, but the owner noted it was stopping and starting. The crown was also damaged and in need of replacement. Given that it had been several years since the timepiece last visited a workshop, a comprehensive service was required to resolve the issue and prevent future wear.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Full Servicing

We began by systematically stripping down the movement. The TAG Calibre 16 chronograph is built upon the highly reliable ETA 7750 platform. Our strip-down revealed no catastrophic component failures, but rather the expected breakdown of aged lubricants and accumulated friction across the gear train and chronograph components.

Once every component was completely disassembled and inspected, the parts underwent a thorough cleaning process. This involves initial manual detailing followed by a full automated cycle in our Elma Solvex RM cleaning machine. With the components pristine and dried, reassembly commenced. Throughout the rebuilding stage, we adhered strictly to the manufacturer’s technical specifications, applying the correct grades of synthetic oils and greases, alongside epilame surface treatments where required to keep the lubrication localized.

In tandem with the movement work, the case and bracelet were thoroughly cleaned to remove daily grime. We installed a fresh set of genuine seals and a new crown before testing the empty case assembly in both our dry and wet pressure testers to verify its structural water resistance. Once passed, the movement, dial, and hands were carefully reunited with the case. After final calibration on our timing machine, the case back was secured and subjected to a final dry pressure test.

To conclude the service, the watch was placed onto our Elma Cyclomotion winding machine to simulate daily wear. We also monitored its timekeeping across multiple static positions and thoroughly checked the operation of the quickset date and the chronograph pushers. Having successfully cleared our rigorous testing phase, this exceptional TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph is ready to be returned to its owner.
