Expert Watch Dial Restoration & Refurbishment by W.E. Clark & Son

At W.E. Clark, we understand the specialist nature of watch dial restoration, which is why all of our watch refurbishment projects requiring dial work are referred to a leading dial restoration specialist. While our Master Watchmaker carries out the mechanical work and any watch case refurbishment, the dial is sent to one of the country’s top family-run dial restorers for expert restoration work.

We are proud to have built a strong and trusted relationship with one of the UK’s best-known vintage watch specialists for this type of work. This allows us to offer exceptional results across a wide range of watches, including pocket watch dial restoration, wrist watch dial restoration, and specific services like Omega watch dial restoration and Rolex dial restoration.

The process begins by photographing the original dial before it is carefully cleaned and prepared. The dial is then matched to one from an extensive library of dial plates. It is not always possible to match the plate exactly to the original, but the closest possible match will be used.

In most cases, the original typeface is matched accurately. When necessary, specialist transfers are used to recreate original logos and text, sourced from a large archive to ensure accuracy. Our aim is always to restore your watch to its original appearance as closely as possible.

Once the matching dial plate has been selected, surface work is carefully completed to ensure a quality finish. Lettering, logos and dial details are reapplied, and batons or numbering are re-attached. The completed dial is then returned to our Master Watchmaker for reassembly into the case. It’s important to note that dial restoration is a highly skilled manual process, and slight differences may be present from the original. We always explain any variations and will confirm that you’re happy with the proposed outcome before proceeding.

This type of work demands specific metalworking skills including engraving and fine detail painting. That’s why we partner only with dial restorers who are highly regarded for their restoration results. For example, a vintage Tudor watch repair completed by our dial restorer is a great illustration of the quality we consistently deliver.

In 2019, we carried out a Jaeger LeCoultre dial restoration that achieved an outstanding result. The customer was extremely pleased with the finished watch:

    Watch Dial Replacement

The dial is the most visible part of a watch. When the dial or glass becomes discoloured or damaged, it can significantly affect the overall look of your timepiece. If damage is extensive, full watch face replacement may be the best option.

We have experience in all aspects of vintage watch face replacement, from internal components like battery replacement to glass replacement for dials, offering sympathetic solutions that maintain the character of your watch. We frequently handle old pocket watch repair, antique watch repair, and complete pocket watch restoration projects.

We can restore anything from a modern wristwatch to a vintage Rolex or Omega. Our watch service covers both mechanical restoration and visual restoration through dial and face work. We also provide an online watch repair option for convenience.

    Watch Dial Replacement Costs

The cost of vintage watch face replacement varies depending on the extent of the work needed. Some watches may only require glass replacement, while others may need more complex restoration to bring them back to their original appearance.

We assess each watch individually and always discuss any costs for repair and restoration services before work begins. For a personalised quote, please contact us to discuss your dial restoration needs.
